This Notion template is designed to work immediately and provides detailed direction about how to use it to implement the Getting Things Done process in your own life.

I've spent a few years trying to build a fully-functional GTD notion set-up. I have tried using other templates and found them cumbersome and ultimately unhelpful. The key issue was the hierarchy of tasks.

In GTD you have actions - simple, single-step actions. These actions can be stand-alone, or they can be part of a project. The projects, in turn, can be part of your Areas of Responsibility (sort of like jobs). The AORs are subordinate to your 1-2 year vision, which are subordinate to 3-5 year vision, to lifetime Principles and Values. Most notion GTD set-ups I've seen tend to ignore this hierarchy, which makes it difficult to actually create a comprehensive system that can capture EVERYTHING.

Adopting GTD with a "leaky" system that can't capture EVERYTHING that comes up is nearly impossible. It creates a bunch of friction, and fails to deliver on the key advantage of GTD - peace of mind. This basically means that if you have things that you can't capture in your system, they will live as open loops in your head and distract you from devoting your attention fully to the present moment.

After trying other templates I've built my own. And then another one. And then another. And THEN this one. Each previous version had a flaw that I figured out, fixed, and then incorporated into the next iteration.

All of these workflows have been incorporated into this notion template, and you can get it now, FOR FREE. I've even incorporated directions throughout to help make sure that you can use it immediately. I've also tried to structure this template so it helps "onboard" you to the GTD productivity system.

Most GTD notion templates work only on the "immediate action" layer - accounting for actions and projects. This set-up allows you to do the full scope of long-term planning, following the 6 Horizons model of GTD. These horizons are linked, making it easy to plan starting with the longest-term visions and working your way down to individual actions.
Newbie-Friendly
New to GTD? The main dashboard will make it easy for you to understand the system not just in theory, but in practice. Then, used the individual views or the condensed dashboard to make the GTD system actually work for you.
